All About Me Mondays...

I think it was the red cowboy outfit that was the start of my shame spiral to gaydom.

- When I was around 8 or 9, I was riding my purple-specked, banana-seated, long-handlebarred bike and ran right into the front bumper of a dark brown Dodge Scamp... and chipped my tooth. It's still chipped.
- I took piano lessons for a few months as a kid. I didn't have the patience to practice and have a bit of an ear for music, so I would memorize the songs instead of sight reading music. I can still remember some of the songs.
- I lost my virginity when I was 20 in a Red Roof Inn in Philadelphia. That was when I tried clawing my way back up my shame spiral to gaydom but, alas, I slipped and fell... a lot.

Dead-on Balls Center...

There have been many important scriptures over time... The Bible, The Torah, Dead Sea Scrolls... and, of course, Entertainment Weekly Magazine... the ultimate source of trashy Hollywood gossip, which I read (as 'religiously' as an Agnostic can) weekly. Well, look who has made it into the bullseye section... and right in the dead center... my bf, Kris... This is an honor that rates higher than receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, the Purple Heart AND/or a free trip to Disney!

Sometimes....

...intervention isn't well received (Mikey).

I Remember....

I used to watch The Electric Company and Sesame Street all the time growing up. I would have been 5 years old at the time and this was one of my favorite clips... in fact, it still pops in my head when I need to remember something. Of course, I always forget what I actually need, but we have plenty of milk, bread and butter though. I think I saw this girl working at the Big Lots the other day. She all grown up... her name is Lasagna Johnson. Bitch can never remember if I want paper or plastic.

Safe Again

Although there was a tense moment, Kris made it through another week. His song selection wasn't all that great this week, but neither was anyone else's. Picked from the year they were born, the mid 80's didn't provide that much material that wasn't covered by some Devo/Flock of Seagulls-type band. Hopefully next week will be better. And while Scott was basically a good singer, I can't help but to think that he would have been laughed off or not even made it if he wasn't blind. It made for great publicity for AI... which is really what it's all about. Any way... I was talking to my friend Mike about this obsession with Kris and he didn't think it was psychotically right to think that you are dating someone from TV... so I pointed his friend Leslie (who thinks Kris is her boyfriend) in the right direction to get her some help with some doctor referrals. Some people are so delusional. Any way... miss you, Kris. Can't wait to see you again.

The Great Wall...

So, I'm not up to as much as the little China men did... but I bet mine would stretch from China Town in San Francisco to, well, maybe a block.

Moving Forward...

The last couple videos went up on here because I truly love them... they were on my myspace page. "The Secret" video got me up out of bed every day and allowed me to love myself again, and "I'm Here Too" is a fantastic song that made me feel love when I felt nothing. It was hauntingly relevant in a recent relationship.

My myspace page became a shrine to that dark period in my life in Vegas but, although I won't forget the experience, what it taught me or how I got back from the edge, I decided to take the page down. I feel as though I have made great progress since I moved back on turning myself around that I'd rather look ahead than back. I will never be able to forget that state of mind, since it's always going to be a part of me... but I won't let it overtake me again.

From The Secret

Today is the beginning of my new life
I am starting over today
All good things are coming to me today
I am grateful to be alive
I see beauty all around me
I live with passion and purpose
I take time to laugh and play every day
I am awake, energized and alive
I focus on all the good things in life
And give thanks for them
I am at peace and one with everything
I feel the love, the joy, the abundance
I am free to be myself
I am magnificence in human form
I am the perfection of life
I am grateful to be… ME
Today is the best day of my life…

All About Me Mondays...

Yet another happy Xmas and another new hairstyle for my Mom. She definitely liked changing it up. Of course, my brother has his normal spaced-out look on his face... I think his 'lude kicked in. If you look at my hair, my Dad used to take us to get our hair cut at Joe the barber on Neville Island for three dollar... and an extra fifty cent for him not to put the tupperware bowl on our heads and do it 'free-style'. In the bottom left corner... looking like the Wicked Witch of the West poking out the bottom of the house... that was either Dressy Bessy or Dapper Dan. The dolls taught you how to tie your shoe and zipper and button. Dapper Dan was undoubtedly androgenous... because when you unbuttoned his pants (which I did often), he had no weenus.

- I am allergic to everything including myself. Without my Afrin, I would not be able to breath. My nose closes up throughout the day and especially at night. If my mouth were ever to be taped up, I would suffocate. Allergy medicine doesn't work for me.
- My first car was a Chevy Laguna. It had a rubber front on it. I hit a telephone pole and it didn't even break the headlight when I hit it head on.
- I opted to take French in Jr. High. Three years of it. When I was in Paris, I forgot everything I knew by the time I got through the airport and that's about the time that they wanted me to leave. The only other time I attempted to speak it was in St. Barth's. I should have taken Spanish, in hindsight. I've been to Mexico four times and L.A. as many.

Disneyland For Rednecks...

If you've never been to Cabela's near Wheeling, I suggest you make a day of it. It truly is the white-trash paradise... full of hunting and camping and fishing gear... as well as a general store, cafeteria and beef jerky tasting carts throughout. There's every conceivable piece of clothing with the standard color being camouflage. Even the duct tape on the floor covering a temporary cord was camouflage in color. When you pull up to the building, it looks like a monster truck show with all the trucks and SUV's and everyone that walks through the doors has three of things that other people only have two of... like appendages... except teeth, where they're missing some. With testosterone already being emitted by the big, strapping guys that go in there, I swear they still pump testosterone in through the air conditioning vents to get them all juiced up. But the most spectacular thing is their collection of dead, stuffed wildlife animals. You couldn't come up with one wild animal that they don't already have perched up in some natural-looking fake setting. With ceilings that rise two floors, there are mountains and streams and snow scenes right out of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Standing on the second floor looking down to the main floor, you get a feeling of what Lewis and Clark felt cresting the Rocky Mountain Pass... unlike them, you can find the elevator and get the hell out of there when you've had enough.

Definitely Not Black...

Just so you know (in case you are playing the game Taboo as Matthew was), Omar Sharif... Born in Alexandria, Egypt (he's Franco-Arabic)... is definitely not black. This perception (or lack thereof) could really throw your teammates off and cause you to spend the whole minute on one question and not EVER receive a point. Also, as in 'Alan Thicke', the last name 'Cooke' is not to be pronounced 'cookie'. And while Alan may have a 'thicky' one... it's still wrong.

Ugly Was Cute...

I love the cars of the 60's and 70's... my brother and I were really into cars when we were little. We used to sit at the top of our street and pick a number... say 5... and every 5th car that rode by was mine and the same for what his number was. We were so excited when we played this game. It was so simple and entertaining. We didn't need the Wii version... we didn't need to be drunk or screwing some fourteen year old or need to be listening to our ipod like today's kids. We used to be able to tell what kind of car it was 500 feet away in the dark by it's headlights. Nowadays, with the ever-changing designs, I can't tell what it is 5 feet away in the daylight. The Pinto was a beautiful ugly car... it served it's purpose, was cheap and more economical than most cars then... unless you ordered the 'explode on contact' rear bumper... then you went through a lot of gas, I guess.

The Greatest Spectacle Under One Roof...

No, I'm not talking about the Shrine Circus... if you haven't been to Garden Ridge (gardenridge.com) in Robinson where the old Wickes Furniture used to be, let me know when you crawl out from under the rock you've been living under. This is truly the greatest place in the world... Aisles and aisles of things... great prices... quality worksmanship... from pictures to mirrors to rugs to furniture to towels to bric-a-brac to lamps to kitchenwares to luggage to silk plants to statuaries to outside umbrellas to candles to decorations... it's "inconceivable"... and, yes, I know what that means, Matt...

All In a Day's Work...

I'm so happy to be back working in landscaping again and today was an awesome day for it. It got up to 75 degrees... there was a nice breeze... birds chirping... dogs barking... the buds coming out on the 'for Cynthia' bushes and, in the air, the smell of fresh mulch. I felt like rolling around in it like a dog in shit. For being dirty, it makes everything look nice and clean. I'm waiting on the 26 BP bids to come in... I think I have a pretty good shot at them, so we'll see.
