I live by the mantra "A man with no baggage has been nowhere" (which, incidentally, I made up)... When I hear someone say 'leave your baggage at the door', what they are really saying is that they don't want to know the real you... or only the fun parts. I believe the experiences that we go through mold us into the people that we are, so the more you've endured, the more diverse you are. The trick is to move forward by analyzing, learning and doing what you can to not make the same mistake again, but own your crazy. It's who you are. I have made more progress in the last two or three years blogging and working through my issues than the previous 40+ years. It's therapeutic.
At my 'worst', a few years ago... my blog started under the name 'Trouble in my Bubble'... and at that time, I was trying to figure out who I had become and how I got to that point... and what my plan of attack would be to change myself and my life for the better.
For a few reasons, I had to change the name... this time to 'Ruminations of My Own Vacuity', which roughly translates to 'thinking about my emptiness', which represents my period of self-reflection.
After working through many issues, I changed it to 'Another Mile Marker', which symbolizes the many hurdles I have overcome through this therapeutic process and milestones I continue to surpass... just like the mile markers on a highway.
Briefly, with 'This Exit Only', I was pulling off the path to re-evaluate my direction... first taking a break from writing altogether, then writing more frankly and honestly just for myself, having made the blog private, with no one reading. I became apathetic to mostly everything in my life and didn't write anything... I had nothing to say.
And now, in it's current resurection... 'Facing Traffic'... I will get back into my passion... writing. With a few things happening over the last couple of months, I feel like I've back-tracked in progress somewhat. Without talking about things, I have become despondent... but inside, I need to get back to it. There's far too much going on in the world right now to be silent... and it's not helping me. I've never taken the easy route... always against the bias or across the grain... or running head-on into traffic. Nothing's ever easy with me. I hope to get more involved in the world and in my life again.
I'm dedicated to speaking my mind without consequence or judgement from any one. We're always on the journey, right? We'll never get anywhere until we do.
Words that describe me but not define me: Romantic, realist, responsible, sarcastic, son, adopted, care-giver, dog person, monogamist, friend, wanderer, wonderer, sociophobe, outdoorsy, writer, decisionist, massage therapist, humorist, gay, Gemini, bleeding-heart liberal, uncle, leader, Democrat, landscaper and deck builder, contortionist (ok, well, not the last one)
I enjoy the outdoors... camping, hiking, biking, kayaking and just taking rides to no particular place, since I love to drive, with a particular affinity for the desert. I like mocha frappucinos, skinny latte's, Fall, the smell of a puppy, all animals (especially dogs and except snakes (eek!)), flea markets, architecture, Pooh (as in Winnie the), Reba, lounge and foreign music, Smarties (the candy), arts and crafts, retro anything, dark chocolate, cute scruffy-faced guys in flip-flops with nice feet, anything off the beaten path, Frank Lloyd Wright, rubbing my woobie (blanket my Mom made for me), dark chocolate, finding the cool spot under the covers, doing the right thing, and cuddling and kissing
I dislike crowds, cigarette smoke/kissing a smoker, drugs and calling your prescriptions 'meds', pickles and most condiments, arrogant people that can't back up their game, snakes (eek, again!), manly-muscle narcissistic guys, people who can't spell "narcissistic", watching the news (too depressing), bad hygene, organized religion, unorganized religion, unorganized people.
Anytime you need to vent or an unbiased opinion sir don't hesitate to reach out. After reading the last post ...... defintely a thought to Consider and Apply!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you've gotten to the "Hell YES!" orientation of things! I was just reading the ABC News blog progression. Interesting that everybody, including Romneys, started proclaiming Obama had won again . . . other than the beloved Mr. Rove (we foiled him again, hehe! Can't forget McConnel, either!) And all before Leno would have been on, after the news. Such a deal!
ReplyDeleteThis was the first time I'd contributed to a political election, but the investment was worth it. Not much, just several $25 or $50 donations through various Dem websites. Good to have a Kennedy heir and Eliz Warren on board, too!
It'll be interesting to see what everybody says about "What happened?" in the morning. My explanation for things might be a little different. My parents always voted a straight Dem ticket, period. They were the products of the Depression, so their orientation was valid, as it was "people who would identify as Republican" who made that deal happen, too. I'd always tended to vote for "the person, not the party", but that changed after the Repubs started acting snooty and like spoiled brats.
I'd vote for a Pres who I'd feel comfortable having a beer (or glass of iced tea) with, informally. Somebody that I could have a good conversation with, as equals. A Pres whose wife could do the same with anybody, yet still remain gracious and elegant at "State" functions. A Pres who wouldn't embarass the country through off-handed comments, without regard of how these comments might be viewed by foreign associates. A Pres who can figure out how to get things done, even if it might take some "different" ways to do it.
I didn't vote for Carter, but he seemed to do reasonably well. I voted for GWBush for Pres, twice . . . once to get him there (after his reallly good performance in TX as Governor, then once more to ensure he might not run again. I voted for Perot, more as a protest vote, but I knew that Clinton would win. Clinton turned out to be better than suspected, especially after he had finished his second term. So, it's been kind of a mixed bag of sorts, but if the Repubs want to play "party", then I'll vote a straight Dem ticket by those implied rules.
I found a blog, www.musclfurpex.tumblr.com which has some interesting things interspersed between the "graphic display of male masculinity".
One realization about Repubs . . . as all they seem to want to do is "outsource", that basically puts things they don't want or know how to do in somebody else's lap to take care of. Yet they are supposed to be "the business people" of the political groups? They don't know how to run anything themselves? OR care how to learn? Perhaps they've been "above the cloudline" too long that they've lost sight of what it's like "below the cloudline" where things really happen?
Repubs might not like "stimulus" things, but they sure stimulated the profits for media entities for this election!
Be yourself! Be a Democrat! Enjoy LIFE!
Big Hugs,
cdadbr

I'm glad I finally discovered your blog but I can't figure out how to subscribe so I'm notified via email when you post something. Do you offer this service?
ReplyDeleteWould you consider a link exchange in our blog rolls? Check out my blathering at www.DiatribesAndOvations.com and let me know. ;)
Hello. I dropped by at the suggestion of Doc Spo, who knows a thing or two about good blogs. I like that you write about how your blogging is "therapeutic". Thank you for using that word, and not calling it "therapy". I am a psychotherapist, and it often drives me nuts when people say "this is my therapy", referring to whatever self-care activity they are engaged in. Anyway, what are you gonna do--people, right? I look forward to reading your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHello! May you continue to be a prolific writer as your time and circumstances permit!
ReplyDeleteHappy mid-November to you!
