Redbox...

So, I thought, isn't this a great thing. Pull up to the outside machine, peruse the board and pick a movie for $1/night. Return when you want. Brand new movies to pick from. What a great concept. Look out video stores, you're going out of business soon... what could possibly make this a bad experience? This guy. If the fishing license pinned to his hat wasn't enough of a tip-off and the 80's jeans... it was how he had to lean on the machine to be able to hold himself up to read every... I repeat... EVERY synopsis of EVERY movie. I was there fifteen minutes before he made a selection... then, it took three tries for him to actually get the movie to vend... having to page through all 14 pages each time to find the video he wanted... all to just have the machine say there was a problem and couldn't process it at that time. Maybe the machine didn't like his hat or jeans as well. I picked both of my movies and had them vend and was out of there in less than 1.5 minutes. I think he's better off going to the video store and reading (well, that could be a problem right there) each box instead of hangin' with the big boys.

Meeting For The First Time...

I know I haven't posted anything further about the story of my birth parents... honestly, sometimes it's just too exhausting going through it, especially since it plays out like a Jerry Springer episode. Rather than getting into it right now, I just wanted to post this picture of my birth mom... since I am supposed to meet up with my half sister (and maybe a half brother) for the first time on Tuesday or Wednesday. It will be very strange, to say the least, but good that I am finally able to shed some light on my past with the connection. We'll see how it goes. Below is George Panyko, who is my supposed birth father. In the middle is me when I was younger... I think I resemble the younger picture of him... we may have the same nose in the adult picture. He is Hungarian. Pretend you're in the audience of the show and give me your opinion... is he the baby-daddy?

Time Keeps on Ticking, Ticking...

Things are going pretty well with the prospective buyers for my Dad's house. They have 5 kids and love the 2 acres of land for them to play in. They had their contractor take a look at the place and he is putting together rough estimates on what it would take for them to expand the house out to accomodate their needs. Having looked at a huge 5 bedroom place (that was only on a quarter acre), they still would rather build out with the yard than buy new and bigger. They have been to the house several times with the whole family and brought the mother as well to look. They are getting excited and so are we. We should know something concrete this week.
Although it's great that we will be able to move on, it's still hard. There were so many memories from our childhood growing up....
- like the time I fell out of our big weeping willow tree onto my back and now my right buttock and calf are smaller because of a pinched nerve and muscular degeneration...
- like the time we were playing hide and seek at dusk and I ran into a barbed wire fence and split my eye open...
- like the time that I was riding my motorcycle and the handle bar got caught on the overhead chain system for our dog and he flew in the air 30 feet (but wasn't harmed, somehow (don't start calling me, PITA)...
- like the time I climbed up on top of the swingset and dropped a hammer on my brother's head below
Good times.... (especially the last one)

Progress...

I know I haven't been entering anything lately... I've been so busy. Had to jump off the BP jobs to help with getting the Marriott property ready for their inspection... it was a 14 hour day yesterday. Not fun. There's someone very interested in buying my dad's house and we wouldn't have to clean it or paint it... they want it as it is to do some work themselves. I'm supposed to go look at a bigger truck next week for work. I'm heading to camp to do massages in a little while... haven't been there in 3 weeks. I'm tired. Still dreaming of my weed-free vacation. Maybe in July? Summer will be over and all I will have done is be out in the sunny weather the whole time, but not enjoying it as much as by a pool with a Pina Colanic and a big floppy straw hat.

Shelby...

After attending Nick's birthday party, I miss my dog, Shelby. She loved getting under my blankets. She was the best dog ever.

Kennywood's Open

If you are a native Pittsburgher, you know that there are two things that someone could mean if they said to you "Kennywood's open"... one means possible hours of fun riding up and down, screaming... going fast and slow, round and round... and the other means 'the amusement park is open'. See... the previous meaning indicates that your zipper is down. I had someone in L.A. tell me 'Kennywood's open', and with the same Pittsburgh instinct that it came out of his mouth, I immediately went for my zipper. Which meaning is more fun is totally up to you.

Happy Birthday, Nick!

We (not me, I'm fair-weathered) Are The Champions....

Since the Steelers won the Super Bowl, and now the Penguins won the Stanley Cup.... I guess it's time for the Pirates.... to wait until the Steelers play again to see how a winning team works. Imagine the pressure the Pirates will be under now. Worse, what will all the Pittsburgh fans do without a good sports team to be obsessed about for the next 3 or 4 months? It's like God taking a day off from the Christians.. the sports flock will be lost. Pandemonium is sure to follow, if not Armageddon.

DAY TWO...

8 hours into day two of the strike, and 'The Man' collapsed under the pressure of the work stand-still. They are over-nighting the entire outstanding amount, which I'll have Monday (unless I owe you money... then... uh... I'm not sure when I'm going to get it... I'll get back to you). I didn't even have to make a sign, choose something cute to wear on the picket line or come up with a catchy chant. I was kicking around "Weeds, weeds, the magical fruit.... the more you... don't pay me, bitches... I'm gonna come down there and cut you... how 'bout that?" It doesn't rhyme, but I think it would have been effective. I feel just like Norma Rae, played by the always emotional yet equally fabulous Sally Field... of the current 'Brothers and Sister' fame. Power to the people!!

Progress...

I was finally able to build a bookcase to get some of my bric-a-brac off the dining room floor. If you could only see what doesn't show behind the camera. :)

DAY ONE...

I have been pushed to the brink... conditions have worsened at work... after being forced to pull weeds, be subjected to poison (ivy), trim trees and shovel mulch all day long in the blazing sun (oh wait, that IS what I do for a living on purpose)... any way, I had no choice but to go on strike last night against BP.

I have not received payment for any of the jobs that I did, with the oldest one being over a month old now and my terms are 'due upon receipt', which generally means it gets paid in the next check run from when you submit it. They had their payables person walk out last week (another strike, I suppose... probably made her push papers and file and write checks all day long in 74 degree climate-controlled temperatures... yikes!)... apparently their bookkeeping is a mess. And although I don't think they are purposely jacking me around, none-the-less, I still haven't been paid.

I slept until 9am this morning, am watching a movie in bed and had eggs like I was at the Waffle House (minus the waitress named Griselda). This is the life. It's almost like it's a vacation or at least a Saturday morning... Gotta go... Union rep is ringing in....

Season Premiere

If you have an extra 20 or so hours... you should go rent the first season of Weeds and watch it... and so on. It is truly the most hilarious, entertaining, mesmerizing show on TV with an excellent cast. You don't have to be high to watch it, but it helps... not that I know that or condone that or think about it or think about you thinking about it or think about you thinking about me thinking about it.... or condone you thinking at all... I have to be high to deal with that... awwww... here we go again.....

Only In Pittsburgh...

There should be no doubt in your mind that when you're behind the person with this bumper sticker that you are definitely in Pittsburgh (probably able to read it because this jagoff doesn't know how to drive through a tunnel at a decent speed). Jagoff is a classic word... it ranks right up there with 'skank' and the pointedly abrupt 'c' word... which, when called these, you shouldn't have to stop and think about what the person saying it to you meant. Alhough not nearly as famous, the equally clear 'jaggerass' ranks right up there as well and is one of my personal favorites.

Jagoff

definition:
Pittsburgh slang (or Pittsburghese) for an asshole, anyone irritating or out of line, or not in love with the Steelers and not drinking Iron City on a regular basis.

Usage:
Yinz gonna go dahtahn to watch the Stilers at Shooter's and drink some ahrns or go sit wit the jagoffs and watch football at Friday's?

Day By Day...

Been really busy this past week or so trying to keep up with the BPs. With the Marriott job biting at my heels, it will be one right into the next... plus, they want something else done at the Marriott as well. All in all, I can't complain. I went to a movie last night... I think the best movie I have ever seen... The Brother's Bloom. It had the narrational feel of 'Christmas Story' with the quirkiness of Pushing Daisies, the now defunked TV show. Anyway, the movie was so entertaining from the first 15 seconds... hilarious... action-packed... love interest... it had it all. I would highly recommend it. Oh well... enough of a taste of the real life... I'm off to work where I daydream about my vacation when this is all over in July... somewhere beachy and quiet with no phones or weeds.

All About Me Mondays....

These are my senior portraits (click pictures to see larger)... I graduated high school in 1985... these pics were part of the 'glamour shots' package... it was all the rage at the time. In the pic with the red sweater, you can really see my perm... I used to get it banged out every so often... I would run home and wash it immediately (a hair don't)... then I would blow dry it out with a round brush, but I would leave the back curly and longer (because I was just that cool). Provocative poses for a teen... but the pictures were taken out of a 79 Ford Econoline van... so there's that.

Across The Pond....

Seems that my blog has gone international... I'm not sure how, but John (in England, I'm guessing, since he said 'bloke'... or maybe Australia... or Ireland?) is an avid reader. I guess inquiring minds want to know. I'm thrilled and honored.

Bit By Bit...

Little by little, I'm getting the new place put together... it's only been three months (lol). I was able to reuse these frames... I got some interesting stationary and gay-ed it up a bit.
