Edges and Ways, a Poem

Edges and Ways
A poem by David Pezzula
(see comment section for narration)

The forest path
with winding twisting turns, ups and downs,
edging the dank thicket, calling you in
outstretched briars, grabbing and slicing
patched with jagged pricks, passages blocked,
forever weeping trees slowly dancing
to a deafening but silent, sad song,
glimmering, random light beckoning a deceptive out,
eyes staring, alone or not, still no clear view
on what seems to be an infinite journey...
settling panic, pushing the unknown
~ persevere

The deep blue
over rocky shores to water's edge,
gazing upon an unfathomable abyss,
cold, burning salt with sharp breeze cutting,
pulling you under, directionless and endless motion
begging your surrender, floating or sinking
thrashing, head above tossing waves, drowning...
with land in sight, clouds so close to your outstretched grasp
far from reach
~ wade

The deceptive fields
full with wilting flower, unpredictable crags and bogs,
landmines suddenly making way to cliff's ledge,
immeasurable, steep depth of unsure fate,
internal angst and leaping urge
as mindful tricks and gravity tugs willpower's stance
on a once firm and strong foothold,
beneath an unreturnable and shaken center...
flailing akimbo against the windward blow
~ retreat

  1. Obviously, this isn't necessarily about the forest, ocean and cliffside... it's personification, showing the similarities to the anxiety, depression, struggling and troubles we face each day and how we can get through them... with a simple one word solution, although never really that simple of an answer.

  2. I feel your pain. I am the owner of two 10,000 LUX full spectrum light boxes. I am not looking forward to the long 5 months ahead. I am a different person with and without the light.
